Behold, A Saint!

He knelt beside the manger bed,
And bent his kindly, gentle head
Toward the Infant God had given
Into his care,
And with a quiet and holy air
Smiled down at Him,
Unquestioningly, content to be
The chosen one to lead His baby steps
Aright, grateful that he,
A plain man of the earth,
Might play so great a part
In the bright miracle of Virgin birth.
Quietly he knelt, guarding,
Protecting thru’ the night.
And Mary looking up at him
Beheld a saint,
Surrounded by a wondrous light!
