The First Snowfall

Remember? You said: “Let’s take
The long way home!” Oh, it was good
To be alone on quiet dark streets
With only ghost-like flakes
For company. You guided me
Gently along the path we walked.
My elbow brushed the paling fences
As we talked in soft hushed tones.
Lamplight glowed in windows of small
Homes, and blue smoke curling heavenward
Mingled with the season’s first snowfall.
Moist silver on your lashes
Matched the silver flying by.
All the world seemed made for love,
And you and I found April gladness,
Once again, beneath a wintry sky!
