House Hunting

I do not need a large house,
Or one so very fine.
In fact, a very small house
Is good enough for mine.
But it must be built strongly,
And able to withstand
The rough and tumble doings
Of a pirate band.
And there must be a thousand
Secret niches about the walls,
And places where the floors lift up
To receive G-men hauls…
And space enough for one small pup,
And room for bats and balls:
And one high attic window
For code and Indian calls.
Most any place will do,
That’s strong enough of beam and rafter
To withstand the fun and laughter,
And the rousing, cheering noise
Of half-a-dozen healthy boys!
