There are several families in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, which are related to the Vorst and André families through marriages. One family, the Oberle family, is related to both the Vorst and the André families. Damian André married Julia Hauck whose sister Rosina married Louis Naumann.

Some Vorst relations from Germany came to settle in Missouri – the Langhardts and Joseph Paul Vorst, the artist. The Zieglers and the Moores are included in the Vorst Family book.

Through Anna Marie Scherer, who married Joseph Johannes Vorst, the family is related to the many Scherers and also the Fitzkams in Sainte Genevieve.

Here is a list of the families in this edition:

      • Nicholas Hauck
      • Louis Naumann
      • Joseph Oberle
      • Johann Langhardt
      • Nicholas Scherer
      • Philip Fitzkam
      • Jean Francois DuPont (added 7/10/11)
      • Louis J. DelCommune (added 7/2/11)

The color-coding throughout these reports begins with the generation of my grandparents, Louise André and Léon Vorst, being pink and working back through brown, green and blue. Hopefully this will make it easier to follow the generations.

By virtue of the fact that Anna Scherer Vorst’s sister, Mary Scherer, married Joseph Fitzkam, the Vorst children and the Fitzkam children were cousins.

Below is a brief history of the Fitzkam family in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri. The wonderful photos are from an old Ziegler family album provided by my cousin Charlotte Blanche Moebes. The ad is from The Fair Play newspaper.

Joe. FITZKAM had a slide last Wednesday.  It wasn't himself that slid it was
the ice on the roof and it struck him in the back of the neck, just as he
was looking out for a customer to shave.  It nearly shaved his head off, but
he is all right, nevertheless.

Joe Fitzkam is as proud as a child with a new toy with his new barber chair and washstand. In fact, Joe's shop is now fitted up real handsome.

Our boss barber, Joe FITZKAM, has bought a complete new set of furniture
for his shop: a patent chair, latest style (it makes you feel like lying on
your back to the last day of reckoning), wash-stand and sideboards to suit.
With this new outfit, a good razor and a steady hand, Joe cannot fail to
command the respect of his customers.
