There are several families in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, which are related to the Vorst and André families through marriages. One family, the Oberle family, is related to both the Vorst and the André families. Damian André married Julia Hauck whose sister Rosina married Louis Naumann.

Some Vorst relations from Germany came to settle in Missouri – the Langhardts and Joseph Paul Vorst, the artist. The Zieglers and the Moores are included in the Vorst Family book.

Through Anna Marie Scherer, who married Joseph Johannes Vorst, the family is related to the many Scherers and also the Fitzkams in Sainte Genevieve.

Here is a list of the families in this edition:

      • Nicholas Hauck
      • Louis Naumann
      • Joseph Oberle
      • Johann Langhardt
      • Nicholas Scherer
      • Philip Fitzkam
      • Jean Francois DuPont (added 7/10/11)
      • Louis J. DelCommune (added 7/2/11)

The color-coding throughout these reports begins with the generation of my grandparents, Louise André and Léon Vorst, being pink and working back through brown, green and blue. Hopefully this will make it easier to follow the generations.

The DelCommune Family
in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri

Color Key: Generation 1 Generation 2 Generation 3 Generation 4

Louise DuPont, the granddaughter of Louis André, married Charles Louis DelCommune in Ste. Genevieve in 1903. Their daughter Louise was a teacher in Ste. Genevieve County for many years. However, the DelCommune family did not remain long in the area. May of the descendants are now located in Murphysboro, Illinois.

1. Louis J. DELCOMMUNE

Birth: abt 1821, Belgium
Death: 17 Oct 1852
Burial: Memorial Cemetery, Sainte Genevieve, Missouri

After immigrating to America and settling in Ste. Genevieve, Louis built a house at what is now 199 LaHaye Street. Below is information regarding the building excerpted from an ad in the Ste. Genevieve Herald.

A Piece of Ste. Genevieve's History is For Sale.

Louis DelCommune built a log and heavy timber cabin on the corner of LaHaye and LaPorte. Shortly thereafter the cabin (built on a substantial limestone foundation) was enlarged to include another room in the rear and a second story addition with attic space (accessed from the outside).

It sits on two city lots with a combined size of 60 x 138. A board and batten smokehouse and storage shed are also on the property. Originally heating was by a freestanding stove, probably coal. There is no evidence of a fireplace ever being in the building.

Between 1860-65, the cabin was used as a medical dispensary for the Union Army, which was camped in the area. A Civil War belt buckle and insignia from a cap were found under the building in 1994. The property has never had any archeological excavations so there is still much to uncover.
